Nowadays, students do not like Reading, they prefer playing or watching cartoons. Due to, we as teacher must to do an effort and doing the activities visual and motivating for them. The use of timetoast makes me the topic of literature easy to teach in class, with images, information and timeline of the different English literature; with great astonishment they have recognised lot of tittles.
The objectives of the activity are:
- Involvement in English speaking countries´ culture (relevant sociocultural rules and conventions)
- Knowledge and cognitive enrichment.
- Interaction capacity.
- Skills development (deducing, inferring, thinking…)
- Real language acquisition-real context (functional & meaningful experiences), communicative purpose.
- Creative and meaningful experiences.
- Foster socialization through activities worked in groups.
I include in my planning sessions based on texts that are going to be read, either by students themselves, by my or any device. If the pupils get used to listening to stories, or to reading them, it is probable that they will keep doing it on their own. If we select texts appropriately, children will not find them difficult, and will be able to finish them, with the motivation effect that this has.
In class, it is difficult students want to read in English, and for them it is very difficult do not understand every word they are reading. Thus, I thought that showing them books they know, maybe they are more excited and ready to start this amazing activity.
For my students, the use of timetoast is very difficult, they are learning the periods, the position of numbers…. But they are interested and they like it, because it is visual, attractive and different for them. They have practiced this format and they have doing a timeline of their life with images and texts, but in traditional paper.
For next time, I would like to change the topic and the structure of the timeline, do it with a different schedule and add pictures related to them, maybe next to daily lifes, thus, they enjoy with the activity and the understanding is better.
